It is here the Golden Age of Piracy has bloomed and many ships left home to head for the Grand Line. No one knows the real danger of their journey or when they'll ever see land again. Many sail for different reasons, adventure, gold, fame, power but all search for One Piece. The grand treasure left behind by Gol D. Roger. Who so-ever finds it will be given the title of Pirate King. It's no small task, the Grand Line is extremely dangerous and unpredictable. Not to mention you can't just simply sail in. It's surrounded by what is known as the calm belt. Here the water has no current or air flow, and in its depths lie millions of giant creatures we call Sea Kings. They will destroy your ship in an instant. The Grand Line is best known as the Pirates Graveyard, and for good reason. As you could have guessed, I am a Pirate. Commander of the Second Division for Whitebeard, my captain and father. I sailed aboard the grand ship Moby Dick. I was once a Captain myself, my crew was the Spade Pirates. In our journey we encountered Whitebeard. He slowly adopted my crew into his with every fight and struggle, until only I stood against him. I did my best to fight him, but in the end there was just no use. He still accepted me with open arms despite the many times I tried to kill him. I relinquished my title as captain to follow in his great fleet, becoming one of his sons. I vowed to one day make him the Pirate King. I am Portgas D. Ace. I ate the Mera Mera no Mi. A devils fruit which gave me the ability to control fire. I can even manipulate my body to become fire in a pinch. A devils fruit is a mysterious edible plant that can give its consumer any power. There are three main types, Logia (Elemental), Zoan (Transformation) and Paramecia (Super-human). They taste awful and you never know what kind you'll get, it's a real gamble. And all of us lose the ability to swim. The sea effectively rejects us along with most of society. We are freaks in the eyes of normal people. I have many enemies, Pirates and Marines alike, but I have far more allies. Blackbeard is a name I will never forget. He was once my brother, my friend and comrade. He followed my command in the Second division. That was, until he killed one of our own, a close friend of mine. All for his own selfish desires. He fled with the Yami Yami no Mi. A fruit that gave the power of Darkness. I took it upon myself to strike out after him. He was my responsibility as his former commander. It's our code, you kill one of ours and we'll take you out. Whitebeard hadn't wanted me to go out alone. In my arrogance I thought I could defeat Blackbeard should we ever meet. I had no idea that the power of the devils fruit he took would be so immense. I was defeated after a long battle. To add insult to injury he turned me in to the Marines, earning himself the title of Shichibukai, a title that I had once been offered but declined. Shichibukai are a group of powerful pirates, hired by the marines to do their dirty work and given immunity. Their dogs. I was imprisoned in Impel Down. The most hellish prison in the Grand Line. I was left there in the 6th level, Eternal Hell, awaiting my execution and the war that was brewing outside. It was here that I was brought to this place. I knew Whitebeard wouldn't leave me to die. It's not his way and no doubt the world had heard of my capture. I'm no small name where I come from. I can only imagine what's happening back home. ♠Personality♠: Ace is a free spirit if there ever was one. Like his brother Luffy, the man usually does and goes where he wants. It's his sense of adventure which drives him. Though their age difference is obvious, he has far more experience with the world and has grown up a bit compared to Luffy. That's not to say he doesn't still have a lot to learn. He's mature, polite and generally level-headed. He tends to think things through better than his little bro would but that doesn't mean he can't get himself into serious trouble. He enjoys a good party and is fairly laid back. He'd sooner go with the flow but will do anything once he sets his mind to it. Give him a task and he'll be sure it is done efficiently. He's loyal, noble, friendly and all around a great friend to have. Mostly he's fun and games but when it gets right down to it he's still a dangerous pirate. He will fight and defend that which he cares about, even go as far as to sacrifice himself for the good of others. He follows a strict code, if one of his own is killed then he will avenge their deaths by hunting down and taking out the culprit. He's a trickster by nature and was known to dine and dash. Though I doubt he'll intentionally cheat people in Discedo out of food unless they deserved it or there was enough to go round in the first place. For a time he was also following in the footsteps of his little brother, if only to check up on him and see to it he was still doing well. He cares a lot for the little guy, even if they aren't related by blood. He respects Luffy's decisions and knows the kid can handle himself. However, he still worries and often gets upset with some of Luffy's more brash of moves. He knows the younger boy is prone to do reckless things. But then, worrying is just what a good big brother should do. He'll do all he can to at least keep an eye on the boy, just in case. He's the only character in the entire series to speak ill of Gol D. Roger, his father, though he claims to have none. He took his mothers last name because she fought to protect him and gave up her life for his. He views Whitebeard as his true father and follows his word alone. If you can achieve his respect than it will be a bond that lasts forever. ♠Abilities♠: Pyrokinesis given to him by the Mera Mera no Mi. Incredible strength, speed and fortitude. Great navigational skills and a variety of martial abilities including using a dagger, axe or his fists. He's also a very intelligent and sneaky fellow. Not a pirate to trifle with. ♠Quirks♠: He can't swim. He has fits of narcolepsy when in the middle of dinner. Often does a dine-and-dash whenever he can. He's fairly honest but he's good at dodging full truths or twisting things when necessary and will almost always get himself into (and out of) trouble somehow.
